Only one street in Makarska has its night. Longest Makarska street Kalalarga.
Only one street in Makarska has an entire night dedicated to it. This is the night when the longest street in town, the Kalalarga, full of liveliness all year round, opens up its courtyards and alleys where hardworking artisans of Makarska keep their shops: fashion boutiques, perfume shops, shoe and clock shops, art galleries… Their doors and windows are wide open. You can hear songs from every corner. Visitors used to be welcomed in national costumes, and handcrafted objects with local ornaments adorned the windows. As a sign of welcome, the host would offer local food products at the door: dried figs, almonds and grape brandy (lozovača). When early morning arrives and the sounds of the Kalalarga Night die down, a sense of calm overcomes the town, and the spirit of past times remains in the oldest cobbled street of Makarska. Local entrepreneurs present products made in Makarska and Dalmatia, and each year new ones crop up. If you want to experience the real tradition of Dalmatia and Makarska, you must not miss this event.
